Paul Walker's Fatal Porsche Crash: Suspect Arrested for Stealing Evidence From the Scene
Jameson Witty has been arrested on suspicion of stealing wreckage from the Porsche Carrera GT that killed Paul Walker on Saturday, Nov. 30. Authorities are waiting for the second suspect to surrender.
According to a police report obtained
by E! News and GhJoy, at the conclusion of the on-scene traffic investigation that evening, the wreckage "was loaded onto a contracted flat-bed tow truck to be transported to the impound yard for further investigation. When the tow truck left the scene at about 10:00 p.m. that night, several vehicles followed it eastbound on Newhall Ranch Road."
At one point, when the tow truck driver stopped at a red light, a witness saw a male exit a vehicle and grab a piece of the debris off the tow truck bed. "The male drove away with the stolen vehicle part," the report states. "The tow truck driver reported the theft to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station."
After police obtained a search warrant, officers arrested 18-year-old Witty at his home in Tujunga, Calif. The stolen piece of the car—its T-top roof panel—was recovered by detectives at a different residence in Canyon Country, a neighborhood in Los Angeles County near Santa Clarita.
Witty was booked at Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station on suspicion of felony grand theft and tampering with evidence. His bail has been set at $20,000. The second suspect, 25, is not currently in California. He has been in contact with the authorities and has made arrangements to surrender.
According to the police report, "The investigation of the traffic collision is ongoing. This includes examination of the wrecked vehicle for any further evidence that could help investigators to determine the cause of the collision." A coroner's report confirmed that the driver, Roger Rodas, 38, died of multiple traumatic injuries. His passenger, Walker, 40, died of traumatic and thermal injuries.
